Children Grieve in Puddles

To an adult, a child’s grief can look confusing. One minute they are crying for the parent they lost, and the next, they are asking for a snack or wanting to play tag.

This is often called "Puddle Jumping."
Unlike adults, who may stay submerged in the "ocean" of grief for long periods, children often jump in and out of their feelings.
Their brains naturally protect them from being overwhelmed by the weight of loss all at once.
